"I have hidden Your Word in my heart that I might not sin against You." - Psalm 119:11

As a young child, somewhere around the age of 9, I was involved in a program similar to Bible Quest. I had no idea that the scripture planted in my young mind and heart at that time would be so valuable to carrying me through my teen and young adult years! Truly the Proverb rings true, "Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it." (Proverbs 22:6)

We are blessed to have such a wonderful program to offer our youth that will help raise them up to be the leaders and church God has called them to be!

Hi, Sue! This looks great. You have done a tremendous job, and I think the coach description was very in-depth and informative.

I didnt see a link from the Conference site to here. As a matter of fact, our old page is on that site with old dates. Just wanted to let you know, although you may already be aware.

See you Saturday! God bless and keep you.

I grew up in church; actually my parents would take me and my brother to Sunday School and drop us off and then pick us up. My parents got saved when I was around 10 years old during a revival held by Rev Joe Cook (now that was a powerful preacher). As a teenager, I began to resent going to church all the time, and I especially resented my parents not attending my special events at school while going to church instead. So, when I got married at the young age of 18 and moved to Maine with my military husband, needless to say, I drifted. Backslid is more appropriate. After 3 years we moved back to Virginia. I attended church irregularly and my husband attended even less. However, when God blessed us with our first child, I was smart enough to realize he needed to be in church, so I attended a little more regular. Then we were blessed with a second child, and it took both my husband and I to attend, again, not 100% faithful, but little by little our attendance grew. I call this our “playing church” days. When our oldest son was about 10 years old, Bible Quiz was introduced to our church. John Wright, my son’s Sunday School teacher, jumped in with both feet and formed the first Family Worship team – a team of 1, our son, Josh. Josh went faithfully to each competition and we’d send him on his way; lost every game I might add, but loved it all the same. All the while, my husband and I were still “playing church”. Then one day Josh and John asked us to come watch. The power of God’s Word fell heavy that day. I can remember sitting there while Sue Goins and John Hancock talked about the events of the day and I cried like a baby. Listening to those kids quote God’s scripture and seeing the love of the adults working with them was so stirring. It was that day that I rededicated my life to Christ. My husband soon followed. By studying the Word with our boys (our youngest son, Wes, couldn’t wait to become part of the team but due to his birth date had to wait another year), our faith in God became stronger and stronger. Josh and Wes became a team of 2 and it was awesome to watch. We often reflect back on the Smallwood brothers against the Smith sisters, and the boys lost 1st place by 10 points! Wow! God will lead you to do things you’d never dream you’d do…such as volunteering to type the quiz books! Now that was an experience. Although time consuming, what a time of learning. How can you not learn when you read and type each and every text and question that was written! Although our boys are now 22 and 23, we continue to be involved in a similar Bible Bowl ministry. With the exception of 1 year, we have worked with children of all ages since 1995 in this program. It continues to be a blessing. Bible Quest, although it is a game of sorts, is so much more. It is truly a ministry. It may not seem as glamorous as other events, or maybe not even as fun, but there is no comparison to the final reward. The devil will fight it every step of the way because he hates for us to learn God’s Word. The Word is so powerful. My husband and I are true examples of such. I’m so thankful that God sent Sue Goins our way. Her love for Him and His Word and her desire to get it out to all played an integral part in me being a Christian today. Keep pressing forward. It is all worth it in the end.
